2017 has, thus far, been engrained with the Treat Yo Self mentality. After an exam, I find myself justifying life decisions that involve eating half a pint of ice cream and watching Netflix for a few hours, activities I don't typically indulge in, but a newfound source of happiness. I thought I would take it to the next level and decided to have afternoon tea at the Boston Public Library with my friend, Hannah. Though I've been to the library to study and to enjoy the architecture (and get the iconic second floor library shot, if we're going to be completely honest), I didn't know that a restaurant existed within the library until recently. I'm not sure if making a reservation is absolutely necessary, but I made one two weeks ago for the first time slot at 11:30.

We were warmly greeted by the staff and promptly seated at the VIP section, which faces the Courtyard, most likely due to the fact that we had an early reservation. Walking into the room, I was immediately in awe of the simplicity, yet grandeur of the furnishing and the room itself. I stared at the marble on the wall, a subtle detail that fit so well with the room, for at least five minutes (I am not ashamed of this fact).
We selected our tea - I ordered the Blue Flower Earl Grey and Hannah got Ginger Lemon - and the server brought the food shortly afterwards. The tea was steeped well and had a refreshing texture - the floridness wasn't potent but was noticeable. The quantity of the food is, as expected, minimal but the quality was good and filling.
Overall, the experience was quite wonderful and the ambience was peaceful and soothing. We spent an hour and a half there, catching up on our lives and just taking in the beauty of the space and the tastiness of the food. It is a bit pricey, but for the ambience and experience, it's a lovely way to spend the afternoon. I plan on returning sometime in the future and to check out other Boston spaces that serve afternoon tea.
